Winter wishes, Chime Studio style.
2024 was our first year in business, and our first chance to send out holiday cards to our clients, friends, and family. This was an exciting project since it gave us the freedom to design cards that represented our brand and could express warmth and comfort. We designed flat vertical cards with a holiday greeting for mailing, plus a few sets of smaller folded cards that were blank inside that we gave as gifts. And two sets of custom folded cards went to a customer who sought the perfect seasonal sentiment. Red and green were nowhere to be found, but we captured the essence of the holidays through our choice of imagery.
The Inspiration
Creating these cards started with a desire to share some of our personal work in a practical way, and make something our clients and friends would enjoy. We began by searching our photography catalog and selecting images that lent themselves nicely to holiday cards. Still-life photographs of spices and fruit evoked hot cider and warm kitchens. A photograph of a deer in a winter field paired well with a shot of small animal tracks in the snow. An image taken in Central Park after a blizzard showed the appeal of a fresh-fallen snow. And, finally, photographs of some of our beautiful native birds allowed us to share our love for nature in all seasons.
Much of the work we do is for digital media, so it’s a pleasure when we’re able to create something tangible, like these cards. It’s satisfying to print them, carefully cut them down to size, score and fold them, pair them with envelopes and wrap them snugly with twine. Adding details with rubber stamps and colorful inks made each card unique. If you received one–or a set– this year, we hope you enjoyed them as much as we enjoyed making them.
Bonus Quiz
Can you name any of the native birds we photographed and printed on our cards?
Answer: Going clockwise from the top–a pair of Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers, American Goldfinch, Red-Headed Woodpecker, and last but not least a White-Throated Sparrow, one of our favorite winter neighbors.
