Westrate Residence

Architectural Photography

A modern home located in Buckhead, Atlanta. Architect Bryan Russell designed this home in reverse, focusing on showcasing the owner’s art and furniture collection. The 3,800-square-foot home features a soaring cantilevered roof, a cozy backyard with a flagstone fireplace and pizza oven, and a mix of intimate and expansive rooms on the main level, which Russell describes as a “giant aquarium.”

With the guidance of both architect and client, we approached photographing this home in a way that would showcase both the architect’s design choices and the client’s artwork and furniture in a cohesive, harmonious way. After moving through the interior and capturing a combination of artwork and angles that showed the home in its best light, we turned to the striking exterior. Focusing on the massive wall of white Tennessee river stone that functions as a kitchen backdrop, shower wall, and fireplace while bisecting the property, we enhanced the contrast of the home against a clear sky by photographing at dusk. This became our signature shot.
